The NCRS offers a 'Shipping Data Report' that consists of the dealer code, dealer zone number, dealer name and dealer address (if available), and the date the car was produced. There is information for many, many, but not all cars, so the $40 cost is refunded if there is no info for your serial number.
This might get you started on the history of your car.
