c2 guy needs c3 help on values?!
hi guys, this might be a little long sorry! i normally hang out on the c2 board, but i talked too a good freind last night that is going to get rid of a 1971 coupe 454. he bought this car last year from a local collector to make a couple bucks on.. i am not up on what these are going for at this time, and was hoping you guys could give me a good idea? here we go!
1971 corvette war bonnet yellow? [have not looked at code myself]
50g miles has not been on the road since 1975-76 stored in a heated shop.
protecto-plate all dealer paper work purchase order and sales
454 th400
power windows
power brakes
tilt
tank sticker is still on tank
as near as i can figure this is what the deal is. my buddy bought this car from a local collector that i have known all my life. the collector is cleaning house a bit and sold a few cars. i know my buddy bought it at a reasonable price or he would not have done it. i dont begrudge him wanting to make a buck!
any way the collector bought it from the original owner, who never drove it in winter/or rain, and babied it.. the car went into storage for the last 40 plus yrs until 2016 when he sold it to my buddy.. so that being said, it is on the 3rd owner now.
the car is in pristine condition paint is great chrome is great, under body is spotless. the shocks still have all stickers on them. the frame bushing still have tape on them.no rust what so ever on the frame.it is a perfect unrestored car that really needs nothing.
in your opinion what would be a far price for this car? i may buy it, but i want to make sure im not in so deep that i cant sell it and get my money back if i choose too do so. I KNOW YOUR GONNA WANT PICS before some will put a price out there.. but i have not had a chance to get any yet, and do not want look at the car if it is out of range from your idea of worth or waste his time looking at it..i will be posting pics later today i hope. thanks all troy

Sorry, couldn't resist.
Condition of the frame and birdcage is paramount in determining value. Assuming this car has never seen inclement weather and is in pristine condition, could easily be worth in th 30's or more.
Trust but verify.

Well I'm glad I didn't disappoint. Being a coup hurts the value as does being auto. Since it has been sitting so long, you have to figure all rubber, including the tires, is shot. The fluids are worth a close look and the motor, unless periodically started, might not be as good as 50k miles would indicate.
Depends a lot on what you want to get out of it. As a driver, there are probably better choices for the money. As a trailer queen/ show car, might be a great starting point.

Hi 20round,
If the '71 LS5 is as nice as you have described, I would think it's in the $30-$35K range. Of course we would need many detailed pictures to determine a better appraisal.
It sounds a little like my '71 LS5 4 speed convertible...not driven, parked in garage, 55K miles.
Good luck!
Your buddy's '71 should look better than mine. Here's a non-restored comparison:

that is amazing for an unrestored car, I love the odd duck color combos!
There is something about a nice original interior that just cant be duplicated by restoring not sure what it is.
Id pay more for a car like yours as its condition is that nice vs a restored one.
Color...theres someone out there that has waited forever for one like yours
Once bought a green/green Z/28...car was the nicest resto id ever seen, it wasnt popular couldnt give it away> paid 8k for it today "rare" color get a premium go figure.

I think the three Neg on this car are 1) Auto, 2) Color, 3) Coupe. Otherwise a very nice survivor car that should bring a premium price if you sell it down the road.

Melting Slicks
If it really is unrestored, original paint, interior, engine and all components, fully documented and super clean with no frame issues I could see it being a $40k car. For that money it should be in GREAT condition.
Hope you show us some pics.
