Front bumper guard mounting
can someone confirm the washers that go on?
the assembly manual page j300 is the diagram I'm going with.
The top mounting is shown as bolt, then l.washer, then p. washer, through bracket to bumper guards.
Is l for locking split washer?
what does p. Washer stand for?
the bottom has these two washers and a 3rd. Which is labeled spl. washer.
so basically I'm not clear what the L., P., and Split. washer stand for.
thanks again,
Jim
I'll relate what I 'think'.
I believe 'P' washer refers to a plain flat washer.
I believe 'L' washer refers to a typical split lock washer.
I believe 'spl' washer refers to a special washer.
It could be a myriad of washers, but unusual when compared to the first two.
It could be a:
a particularly thick (heavy) flat washer
a particularly thick (heavy) split lock washer
an external or internal 'star' lock washer
a flat washer with an unusual sized hole for it's diameter
a flat washer with both an unusual sized hole, thickness, and diameter
a washer with a special finish (plated, parkerized, etc.)
These fasteners always have a part number, but you can't always find a description of the fastener that part number leads to.
That's why some folks are especially interested in cars that haven't ever been taken apart so they might be able to see first hand what fasteners were used in a particular application. (Even then you might only be seeing what was being used that day or even that hour.) They often look at many cars in order to get an idea of what was typically being used.
Because of all this some folks become very interested in fasteners even to the point of it being an obsession.
In the case of item #22 on the front bumper sheet... it's a very thick flat washer of small diameter relative to it's hole diameter that is used as a spacer in the hole in the fiberglass valance to prevent the fiberglass from being crushed when the bolt is tightened to it's torque specification. It can't be seen with the bracket assembled.
Regards,
Alan
The #22 'spcl' washer.

Note the thickness of the split lock washer, and the small diameter of the flat washer relative to the bolt size.
