Default Pretty cool find- Pilot Job

Took my 68 vert to work today and when I was out at lunch happened to look down and notice this.

Quick search of the forum says this had to do with the constant production changes on the early cars. Still cool to find and in a place where you can see it with the top down

Hi TJ,
I remember back in 2014 member John 65 posted a photo from his 68 of the SAME part with the 'Pilot Job' stamp on it.
Maybe he'll post it again?
It would be interesting to know how close together, (or far apart), the cars' sequence numbers are.
Regards,
Alan

Hi,
I believe that often when a part was modified in some way samples were made and tested.
Sometimes some of the parts were sent to the production line to see if they caused any problem in the assembly process that might indicate if the part, or the process, needed modification in order for the part to become a regular production part.
Regards,
Alan

Good memory Alan...... I cant remember what I had for dinner last night.

My 68 was an Oct build. You're correct, same part, inner 1/4 trim.

If mine is stamped it would be down lower, not visible while installed.

Alan is correct. Actually some manufacturing facilities have an entire pilot lines or 'plants' where they try new techniques for manufacturing. That's especially true in process industries, like petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, where are you are making stuff rather than things.

Here is what I found on the back covers of my seats - early model '68. (Nov. 24/1967 build).
