damaged fiber optics
I have a 68 with damaged fiber optics. The damage is inside at the fiber optic console lenses. The some of fiber has been cut off and a few of the ferrules are missing. I need the ferrules for the inside not the outside. Does anyone know where to find them?

Rick, if you're not going to replace the whole fiber optic harness, I have repaired them before simply by using the same heat shrink that you would use to cover a wire splice. Very inexpensive and available at any parts store. Run about an inch of heat shrink, heat it so it's nice and tight, then cut it off flat with a new razor blade. This should give you a pretty decent lighted edge. You can fasten it in the lens in any number of ways from tape to epoxy. I use a little 3M emblem tape. The ferrules tend to come loose.

Thanks Greg. I figured I would have to get a little creative on the inside. My fiber seems to be in good shape except for a couple ends that was cut off inside. If I find a piece that's bad, i believe it can be replaced with the simplex 1mm E1000. I believe its about 55 cents per foot. The ferrules at the light are easy to find. The ones inside are a different story.

Another option would be a fiber optics repair kit such as that sold through Mid-America Motor Sports

Hi r,
I see the ferrules for the lamp end of the cable but not the lens end.
Do you have the CC part number?
Regards,
Alan

Hi r,
That number appears to be the lens.
I thought Rick was looking for the cable 'ferrule' for that end of the cable.
Maybe I misunderstood his post.

Alan

You are correct Alan. I'm looking for the ferrule for that lens. I've found every part except that. The entire harness could be built if those ferrules could be found. I'm sure there is another way to secure the fiber to the lens if they can't be found. But, my fiber seems to be good except for the missing inside ferrules.

Hi Rick,
Obviously the purpose of the ferrule is to hold the cable in the lens's tubes.
BUBBA ALERT!!!!
Could you place the cable into position and then wedge something like a piece of tooth pick in the tube to hold the cable in place? Once the shifter plate is back inlace on the console there's really no pressure on the cable to make it want to back out of the tube?
I can't believe I just wrote that!!!
Hopefully you'll be able to find a source for the ferrules!
Regards,
Alan
You KNOW there have been lots of 68-71 forward lighting harnesses discarding with at least a few of those ferrules still on it! I reused my forward harness so can not be any help.

This is the fwd harness. I need to replace all of the ends here.

I was going to suggest a trip to the hobby shop for a piece of brass tube that will just fit the fiber. Looks like you found a fix.
