Default Expecting a 1971 LT1

Hey Forum Members,

I'm expecting my first Corvette next weekend. I found a nice restored LT1 outside of Atlanta. Going to pick her up on 7/29. I want to know if anyone between Atlanta and Macon can go with me to do a final inspection, that would make me much better and safer. Please PM me if you're available.

Thanks,
Brian

Welcome, but I'm going to move this over to the C3 General section as you'll most likely get more responses over there.

Hi Brian,
Welcome!!!
My goodness! A 71 LT-! !!!!

Depending on just what the car is and how concerned you are that ALL the parts that make an LT-! a Lt-! still be there, you might actually be looking for someone with a pretty extensive knowledge of LT-! cars to look at the car with you.

Have you checked it out in person yet?

How is the owner describing the car?
Regards,
Alan

Well here's a '71 to tide you over until you hopefully get it...

But listen to Alan. It needs checking by someone that knows what to look for as without its LT-1 goodies it takes a big knock.

By the sounds of it you have seen it but don't get over emotional and make any rash moves without cast iron proof it is what it alludes to be

Brit & Mark,

Are you saying that the 71 LT1 I'm buying may not be an LT1 based on the window sticker? Appreciate your guys help before I buy it.

Thanks, Brian

Hi Brian,
Not only doesn't the window sticker indicate the car is an LT-!…. I'm not sure that's even a real window sticker.
Be VERY cautious while the money is still in YOUR pocket.
Regards,
Alan

A known to be real 71 window sticker.

My 2 cents...

The window sticker doesn't look authentic, it looks nearly identical to a "novelty" window sticker I had made for my car.

AC was not available 71 LT-1.

LT-1 option should be listed on window sticker.

Your mileage may vary....

As many of the replies agree, this window sticker (real or not) is NOT a LT1. No air in '71 LT1. No option line item listed on sticker.

If the VIN on the window sticker matches the VIN on the car's A pillar and engine stamp pad, you have, at best, a converted LT1.

As Alan says, have a person that's knowledgeable in LT1 details preview the case BEFORE you trade money for car.

I'm more than suspicious...

How about posting a couple pictures of the car? A pic of the engine bay and the tach might answer a few more questions.

I constantly "ride" my 46 yr. friend, with the most original un-molested LT-1 on the planet, or extremely close to that planet, as to why he didn't get AC since cold air works well on small blocks. He gets irritated and reminds me that 71 LT's did NOT offer AC. It might still be a car you could really enjoy, but the price should reflect what it really-really is. Put the dude off and dig into this like a 6-year old kid with a bowl of ice cream. If you don't trust your gut, wait until you can take some knowledge with you. If the seller is opposed to that, hit delete on this one.

If you see factory AC on this car you do not have an LT1 car. That sticker looks reproduced and even if it is real there is no option on it stating it is an LT1. I would be real skeptical of this car. Some pictures would help but please bring someone with some knowledge and have more proof than a window sticker which is wrong for an LT1 car anyways.

Thanks for all your input. Going to pass on this one.

Another question: What's your thoughts on a CE engine? Value/Desire reduction?

The same as any other Corvette without it's original engine. It's no longer original. What is that worth to you? Some people care, some don't. Depends on what you are looking for.

Hi,
I was taking a closer look at the "window sticker" and noticed that 'telescopic' is spelled incorrectly.
As the ads for these window stickers state….. "for amusement purposes only"!
Regards,
Alan

x2 no piece of paper looks that good over time

Sad that one really has to resort to "its fake" & most times it is; at least youre doing your homework in advance

if hes willing to sell it for "fake" price would you still want it? Have a link to car in question?
Seller could know or may have gotten rooked himself, his problem.

Good luck.
