Default camel hump heads

A little bored today and thought I'd throw this one out there.

I can pop the oil fill on the passenger side and see a casting # through it.Thought it was supposed to be in the center but see for yourself.

Hard to tell from the oil but it the # really is 3927186 and have seen websites that describe this as "69-70...302/350.Camel hump,64cc chambers, accessory holes"

I am wondering about the H121 date code. Looks like an M but that doesn't make sense. I think that means August 12 1971. Any site I've found 3927186 on says '69-70 - not 1971.

Any ideas? Not earth shattering just curious.

Since the engine is stamped CE, perhaps the heads are "over the counter" too, explaining the 71 date.

FYI - your oil fill should be on the drivers side.

Good catch on the valve covers - I never noticed. Thanks.

Every other casting # on this car is correct for '69. The casting # on these heads should be from '69-70. The '71 date is confusing. I found this link that has some interesting info on them:
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...asting.313262/

When I pull the covers to swap them maybe I'll get a bit more info.

Again, just curious. They're all part of the story.

FWIW...........
It's my understanding that the letter "I" was usually not used for parts with the typical GM alpha-numeric date coding because it's too easy to confuse with the numeric "1". That would make "M" December.

That's not the original engine for that car. It's a CE engine. Those heads could be original to that engine, but not the car.

I am aware of that.

My question is: did they make 3927186 heads in 1971? From the date code the answer pretty clearly is yes but nothing I've found online agrees with that - any site that decodes that casting # says 69-70.

Your casting displays an "M" code...not an "H" code.

One of my resource books says the 186 heads were used on '69-'76 trucks (light duty) with large valves.
