I have bought two front emblems now, they all seem to be flat. When installed they have to much gap under one side. The emblem needs to be slightly v shaped. Anyone else having this problem. Am I getting bad emblems, or what.
P.S I tried to GENTLY bend the first one. Broke right into. Pot Metal.
Any help
Thank
Brent
Hi Brent,
The flat flag emblem is for mounting on the gas filler lid.
The front emblem requires the slight 'v' shape to match the shape of the hood surround at that point.
So 2 different parts.
Are you ordering the right part? Is the vendor sending the right part?
Regards,
Alan
The spacing on the studs look different in your pictures. If that's the case then then I guess I got the correct one, because the holes lined up when I installed it. I'll take a pic and show you. Maybe it is wrong. Thanks so much for the quick response. I'll go check it now.

Thanks so much for the help. I have one more question. The car in the picture is a 71' coupe. I have owned it for about 6 years. I am in the process of buying a 70' convertible from a family member. The 71' has parking light grills from a 70', But the 70' I'm buying has parking light grills with holes in the front. I'm thinking about swapping them. The one I'm buying has all new chrome. With the wrong parking light grills. If I swap them I would need to get the ones in the picture redone. Do you have any suggestions on where to get this done, and is it expensive.
I know this seems confusing so I will give two pictures. Gold car is a 71'
Red car is a 70'.
Thank you so much.
Brent.
Hi Brent,
You need to be VERY, VERY, careful with the studs on the 70 style grills.
Even though the grills are just secured in place with speed-nuts, it's too easy to twist off part of the stud when removing the nuts.
So use extra caution!!!
The plater I'm most familiar with is Librandi's Plating in Middletown, Pa. (near Harrisburg). I would talk to them about re-plating the grills.
You'll have to take care of repainting the painted parts of the grill when they're finished since the chrome shops don't do that.
How did the 71 car end up with the 70 style grills… is it quite an early car?
Regards,
Alan
I'm curious about the 70… it appears from the photo that the bumper-ettes are missing ?… just wondering if my eyes are deceiving me?
It's weird as the front & back emblems have different stud ctrs so you have the correct one. The pic below is edge on and shows the amount of deflection from the straight edge:
Yes the car is missing some of the bumper parts. As a matter a fact. Maybe you can share some more advise. The Red 1970 car. It's been in the family for about 15 years. The paint was done about 8 years ago. The picture of the car was the only time its been pushed out of the garage in the last 8 years. After the paint was done, it started getting other things done, and bought for it. Like bumpers bought new, or chromed the originals. pulled interior apart to fix/replace lots of small cables, and vents etc. The guy who owns the car has spent lots of money on parts, and chrome. But about 5 years ago he bought a c6 Vette, and has not touched the car since. So it ran and drove great as a weekend car, Good power some small leaks, But nothing crazy. Cool car 4spd. Convertible. Monza red. Not sure how far I will need to go into the Eng., But the rest of what needs to be do is fit bumpers, finish interior, and install a few cables. He had a windshield installed, but as you can see in the picture its not flush with the trim on both sides. Drivers side is correct, passenger side sitting to deep in the channel. Period correct engine, but not numbers matching. Car has lots of upgrades, and new parts. They just need to be put on. All that said is $12k A good buy. At first it sounded great to me, but it
has not run in 8 years could get expensive. Also ill put another picture in of the front end of the car. Thanks again.

Alan to answer your first question. When I bought the 71' I was so excited I finally had a corvette. The car has a 3 ring binder full of info, and receipts. As I went through the information I saw a few names of owners from the 70's. Got some phone numbers and called. Traced the car back to second owner form 1975. He sent me pictures of the car from that time frame. And that's when I noticed the 70' style grills. The car has a build date from late 1970, So I thought it was possible they where still using 70' model grills in an early 71' model car. If that's not the cast , I guess I just got lucky. They are actually in really good shape.
Take the ca$h and a sales contract over to him and get signature NOW! That is a great deal, even if there are things to fix. The owner seems to be frustrated with it and you night as well buy the car before his mood changes.
Hi Brent,
I agree that from what can be seen in the photos, and what you describe, $12,000 is quite a low price for a 70 convertible in what appears to be very good condition.
Along with the other things that will need attention you might also think about new tires. Even tires that appear to be in very good condition can cause problems because of their age. Hopefully the problem doesn't occur on a front tire at 60mph.
Look at Wee's post on this page!
The 70 grills on the 71 have been seen, in fact there were 'perhaps' some cars with one of each.
When the grills with studs were on 71 cars they were definitely on early production cars…. but just HOW early even becomes uncertain because there was a strike that lasted from about September 15th through November 21st. So cars with low 2000 vin sequences were still being built during what would have normally be the 4th month of production.

Might just be me, but the bottom edge looks awfully ragged in this pic. Maybe there's some excess flashing preventing it from laying down like it's supposed to?
I've looked in the assembly manual but am having trouble finding the placement of the flag emblem. Can someone with a original 1972 car take a measurement for me (-: , BTW I borrowed the photo, Thanks!
