Having an issue with tachometer. The original cable connector, unknown till now, was cross threaded and not seated completely in distributor. Thus cable was rounded out and quit working.
I replaced the original tach cable with replacement one that is 23" long. This cable slightly longer than original. Now even with it completed connected to distributor cannot get it to work. Looking at end of cable it looks like it is grabbing it approx 1/8" at the end and staring to wear already. Now wondering what could be the problem? What wears down? looks like the worm gear sleeve into distributor is made of brass and wondering if there is a bushing or the gear that is worn inside?
Looking for some info and guidence on this.

Hi Leo,
The drive gear in the distributor may have gotten damaged.
Have you checked to if that's so?
The longer cable may be a problem. You're the second person who has asked about that recently.
The way the tach cable enters the distributor is very important for both the function of the tachometer and the longevity of the tach cable.
Have you tried to route the longer cable in a way that doesn't create a sharp bend were it enters distributor?
Regards,
Alan
The tach drive gear and bushing
The connection from cable to distributor you should be striving to achieve….almost straight in.
