Water pump and fan clutch ID please
Anyone able to confirm if this either of these items are original to my March vett?
water pump looks to say 3856284 and maybe 45 circle symbol and an 8.
I'm not as confident as much on the originality of the fan clutch. Here are some pics.
thanks
Jim

Sorry, thought I had typed it in but it is a 69 vet.
Is the date code 45th week of 68?

Hi Jim,
The 3868284 water pump was used on 68 and early to mid 69 big block engines.

I Googled the part number and came up with this from the NCRS:
"For 1969 Corvette big block applications, there were 2 different water pump castings utilized. Early production cars used the GM #3856284 which is the same pump casting used for all previous Corvette big blocks and most big blocks used in all other Chevrolet applications from 1965 through 1968..."

Hi Jim,
Yes, I had 2 errors in my post… but the pump could be correct for your car depending on just when the engine was assembled compared to the date on the pump.
(It could be too early or late a pump to be part of this engine.)

Alan

That's what I was thinking. I wanted to decide whether to rebuild this one or buy a new one.
Sounds like it is worth it to rebuild this one I have.
Going to start the removal process.
As far as I can research with the internet, The fan clutch might be an aftermarket. If that is so, I will just replace it.
Thanks for the inputs.

I have removed the water pump and the date on it is confirmed to be A 5 8.
If I am understanding the dating. That is saying this water pump was made on janurary 5th 1968?
Is that correct? If so, its another 68 part on my 1969 car.
