Default What do these vent control cable brackets attach to?!?

I've searched high and low on the forum, but have not been able to find a definitive answer on what these plastic cable brackets for the air vent controls on a non-A/C car connect to. I have a '72. I had to use the shift plate repair kit on the center console since the old plastic mounting points broke off long ago - I'm wondering if I removed the mounting points for these as well. They definitely don't seem to line up with the upper mounting points for the shift plate - readily seen on the metal bracket in the attached picture.

Anyone run into this before? I don't understand why this is stumping me

Hi gg,
They each mount to small bracket on the underside of the shifter console with a small screw.
Regards,
Alan

Note this photo shows a repair method for the shifter plate screws too. Disregard those plates.

Thanks Alan. Do you know if it was a separate bracket, or part of the underside of the console? I know there is a reinforcement bracket underneath there - maybe that's it.
