Default Recommendation on a good C3 service manual?

As the title states - looking for a good service manual for my 74 L48. I've heard the Haynes aren't worth the paper they are printed on.....

Order one for your specific year 1974 Vette. There will be a section in the book with detailed Corvette repair (along with other GM cars)....EBay sells them.

A couple of other sources are automotive bookstores and you are looking for the 1974 Service Manual that includes a number of Chevrolet brands. So there is no Corvette specific manual. But the Service Manual is comprehensive and should be on your bookshelf

The Motorbook Store

DIY Repair Manuals

At the DIY you'll see the various GM manuals available for the 1974 model year. Compare prices...ebay has a couple for $24. The Motor Bookstore offers the same for $46 while DIY has it for $74. DIY may be reprinting these manuals but search around.

Hope this helps!

Hi C,
In addition to the GM Chassis Service Manual for your 74 there is also the 74 GM Assembly Instruction Manual. Do you know about or have one of those?
If not, I think you'll find it pretty helpful while working on your car too. It was used on the production line in St.Louis to help document how the many parts of all the areas of the car were put together.
Regards,
Alan

1974 Chevrolet Service Manual (Camaro, Chevelle, Monte Carlo, Nova, Corvette)

MOTOR Auto Repair Manual 1974

1974 Corvette Assembly Manual (AIM)

Buy all three of the above.

And, if you have plans to rebuild any of the car's components (engine, trans, diff, starter, alternator, P/S components, etc, etc, you NEED a copy of the Chevrolet Chassis OVERHAUL Manual for 1974 ('75, '76 would also work, I believe).

This is the 'companion' book to the Chassis Service Manual. It is no longer in print (have no idea of why it isn't), but you can find them on eBay on occasion.

Your web address just went to a general listing rather than to a specific manual.

You want the OVERHAUL manual. There may also be an Overhaul Supplement, but that is just additional material that should be added to the Overhaul manual.

Shop Manual and Service Manual may be interchangeable terms.

Thanks for all the references! I was rooting through my dads stuff and found his 74 service manual.

You may also want to get one from NCRS, if that is your goal.
