Help
i built the 327 that was in my car and daily drove it throughout this past summer. I am going to carefully take out the factory ac and all its components. Everything works. The car was my daily driver all through summer and I never used the Ac once (The car just sounds too good to have the windows up). I rebuilt the system when i had the motor out (new drier, orifice tube and the sensor that wraps around the orifice tube, and new gaskets). I was wondering what it would be worth if i sold the whole system? Is it even worth it to sell it? Please let me know what you guys think its worth.
Thanks a million,
Wesley
I would keep the system intact, you never know when you may need it. And you just cant remove the evaporator housing without leaving a big hole in the firewall. If you want every bit of horsepower, remove the belt.
even 7T1s smart answer.
I honestly don't think I will ever ese the system. Im only 18 years old and have never had AC my whole life, even in my house. I have cars and truck with ac and never use the system in them either.
if I was to want AC I would install a vintage act system that cleans the engine bay and interior up a lot and cools more efficiently as well.
I am a very competent fabricator and can always make a blanch off plate or box in stainless to cover the hole the ac box leaves. It would be a nice clean looking place to mount an ignition box and such anyways. I was also thinking about mounting a transmission cooler in front of the radiator with the extra room.
I would really just like to know if the AC systems are worth anything if they were to be sold. I am in the middle of LS swapping a 76 corvette (6.0 iron block between 675-725 hp at the crank without any shot) and I'm probably going to remove the ac in that as well.
Thanks a bunch,
wesley
If you are determined to remove the complete A/C.....try no to loosen any refrigerant lines-hoses if possible (I don't know if a Corvette A/C can be removed as a complete unit).
Save every part including nuts/bolts/clamps for future buyers.
Why don't you start your own thread in this General Forum.

My personal opinion is that you should store this stuff in case you sell the car later and the new owner is not in cold country, as you apparently are. Down south here a working A/C unit is required for survival. Many potential buyers may not wish to retrofit an aftermarket unit in the car or may want the car to be original. I think you could potentially lose a lot more on the sale of the car later than you will gain by selling those parts now.
And for the record, you may have no plans to sell the car now, but if you are 18 years old, your priorities will likely change as you grow older.
Just my 2 cents worth.

very well put!Someday the OP might find a classy date that does like ac. Not a lot women like to sit in a hot car on hot and humid days, or nights sweating when they are dressed up or their hair blowing around because you want the top down. The parts for early ac go for about $350, but when you need it, it's more and early C3's are worth more with working AC. In my opinion, leave it be, when the AC if off the compressor clutch just spins freely - hardly any drag.
