Hi S,
The actuators were originally zinc or cadmium plated with di-chromate 'wash' which gave them an iridescent gold/copper color.
There are various combinations of paint available that duplicate this color to some degree, (try Eastwood), or you can look for some of the gold or copper paints from the home/crafts stores that do a pretty good job.
The headlight actuators originally had the same plated finish
