Default Question for '68 Owners...

I have been looking for detail info on how and where to locate the vinyl pulls for the storage doors. I'm seeing conflicting info and/or blurred photos so far while searching the old interweb. Anyone help me out with this?

Not 68, but typical.

So that looks to be about "7:00 'clock" and adjacent to or almost touching the bezel? I have seen them at "9:00 o'clock", 12:00 o'clock, two inches away from the bezel, almost under the bezel, etc. I would imagine they would have been pretty consistent at the factory in positioning them, but once these cars move into the retro world they get pretty random. I am not a perfectionist or OCD, but when possible I like to keep things as original as I can. Especially on the easy stuff like this should be. Thanks Mike!

Hi 68,
Here are the loop locations on my 71 doors.
Pretty consistent?
Regards,
Alan

Note the washer so the screw head doesn't pull through the loop material.

68s and early 69s did not have loops, they used a spring loaded hinge, that would
pop open when you pushed the latch button, did not work well thats why they went to the loops

Great shots Alan. Thanks. I was thinking that by '71 they had switched to the metal hook integral to the bezel. Must have happened later on.

I had completely forgotten that detail. When I recently returned to this project after a long hiatus I just jumped back in with finishing up this storage assembly. When I started digging up detail photos using mostly parts for sale pictures, virtually all of them include '68 on these components and I guess I got brainwashed into assuming they all had them. There is a tendency to group years, such as "Fits 1968 to 1973" or whatever when listing parts. "Fits" and "is correct for" are two very different things. I guess lesson learned is do NOT rely on marketing information alone when researching these cars. Thanks for reminding me! Especially confusing was the fact that in the parts I received when I purchased the car was ONE door pull loop in the original gunmetal color. There again I assumed it was out of this car. Must have been picked up by a previous owner along with other random parts. Wow.

Hi 68,
I believe the change to the bezel with the 'lift tab' occurred for or during the 77 model year?
Regards,
Alan

So really the items in this package should say "69L", since they were not used in '68 at all and after '69 Gunmetal was discontinued.

Doing a cursory review of cars on Ebay I would say that sounds right Alan.
