Default Alarm

Hi,first time posting a question so I hope it's in the right spot. I have a 69 and the anti- theft alarm works when you lift the hood, my question is should it also alarm when the door s opened. If so does it work off of the courtesy light switch or the door ajar switch? Thanks for any help.

Hi mph,
Welcome! First post!!
The door alarms are triggered by the switches in the hinge pillars, the same switches as those for the interior courtesy lamps.
The switches in the lock pillars are for the door ajar warning lamp in the dash.
Regards,
Alan

Are you sure about that Alan? I know for sure that the Alarm is wired to the the lock pillar switches on the 73. It also works the door ajar light. I'm 99% sure that's true for the 68-72 also. The hinge switches work the courtesy lights and the key buzzer.

Here is the wiring schematic I did on the 69 alarm system.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Sorry but I'm still confused. The schematic shows that the door jamb, rear, switch activates the alarm. But Allan 71 said that he thought the courtesy light ,front, switch activated the alarm and you seem to agree with him. Perhaps I have it wrong but those are two different switches. Thanks again.

The rear switches are what controls the alarm system. I too posted in error.

Hi,
I'm sorry.. I made a mistake!
I was looking at the alarm option pages in the AIM.
The drawing shows the left front switch wring crossing the alarm wiring and I thought the switch wire was entering the alarm wiring harness !!!!
Regards,
Alan

mbp,
The alarm switches are in the lower rear door jambs as I mentioned above. It's funny though that your horn sounds when you open the hood but not the doors? Are the rear switches on your car still present and functioning?(are you able to press them in and they spring back?) If so they may still be connected, but maybe they are bad. You can gain access to them by removing the #3 body mount access panels in the front of the rear wheel wells. They aren't easy to reach by any means, but you may be able to see if they are still connected. You could also try loosening the mounting nut on the switch and gently pull it up through to see if it's connected. For the hood switch to sound the alarm all the wires should be connected though! Any break in that circuit would not sound the alarm. With the alarm set and the hood closed open each door separately and jiggle the switches to see if the horn clicks or sounds.
Hope this helps,
Tooch

Thanks to those that took the time to answer. All finished and well tested, alarm on both doors and hood work. I'm sure neighbors will vouch. It was the front switches in the hinge pillar, same ones that control the courtesy lights in the kick panels. Thanks again.
