Default 70 wiper issue

On a 70 corvette.

Last winter I replaced the wiper motor, wiper switch and all vacuum hoses to get my wipers working.

Last night while driving the wiper door comes open for no reason and closes when I turn the engine off.
I tried the wipers when the door was open and they no longer work.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Scott

Maybe the wiper door solenoid on the back of the tach? Because that is where the vacuum system and the electrical system interact together. That's just a guess. Get out your vacuum gauge and find out where the command side of your wiper door is venting, which is allowing the wiper door to open.

I had a similar experience years ago with my 70.
My wipers would sometimes shut down while driving in the rain.
Once when it did this I pounded on the top of the dash with my fist, strangely enough it worked. Being it was dusk at the time I noticed a small flash of light near the narrow point of my center console, the place where these units break. Turns out my center console was cracked, intermittent connection between the top half where the switch is located and the bottom half where the grounds were connected. I connected a jumper wire between the halves. Worked well until I located a replacement.

You may have some similar problem? Is your center console in one piece? Maybe check all connections, one may be loose?

Thanks guys!

When I put the new switch in I ran a ground wire to the switch to make sure it has a good ground.

The new switch seemed really cheap and flimsy so i'll check that first, if that doesn't work I'll go from there.

Thank you
