Default Original spare

I have the original spare under my car. I would like to inflate it to 10 PSI or so for show. Would it be safer to put an inner tube in the tire? Would it help prevent it from blowing apart?

My '72 had the original unused spare still inflated so I would guess you'd be ok for show use only

Hi c,
I too am using one of my original tires as a spare tire.
I don't have a tube in it, and have only enough air pressure in it to give it a 'natural' inflated shape.

I really think it's the flexing of the sidewalls that driving causes that makes pretty good looking, but old, tires, crack and fail.
Regards,
Alan

I still have my original spare, however in recent years I had to add a tube as it would leak down. Last time I checked, I had about 24 lbs of air. Now that I think back, that was about 6-7 years ago.(Maybe 10) I guess I'll check it again, soon.
