Default Frame swap

I just traded for a 74 . Found out frame rotted. Can I use a 76 frame? If so any difficult mods needed. Thanks for any info.Ron

I try to remember all of the odd changes that GM has done and the older I get ...they do not come to mind right away. I believe I am correct on this ..but double check by getting a photo of the frame and comparing it.

I do know that you are wanting to see if how the rear impact bar is attached on your 1974 and see if the provisioned made on the 1976 frame are the same. I believe that is where they ARE different...due to the safety standards changed by 1976 and the impact bar now has absorbers made into it...that bolt onto the end of the frame rail on each side that hole the impact bar. ...while your 1974 does not. That is where you are going to have an issue....because the front is the same in how the impact bar structure is attached.

EDIT: It came to me today that the rear side portion of the frame of a 1974 are unique. There is a flat plate of steel that is a part of the frame that is used to hold the heavy cast iron extensions onto the frame...which I know the 1976 frame does not have.
