Ah, car in a condom nice.
And I just went out and bought 8 bars of Irish Spring soap.
Looks like I'll have some extremely clean mice inside my car.

I had the same situation in my vette using the Irish Spring bars. You could see their teeth marks in the bars where they nibbled on it. Started using it for bait in the snap traps and caught several. It makes your car smell nice while you feed the wildlife.

We're surround by field and had a big problem with mice so loaded half a dozen of these with a poison that when that ate it gave the little bastards the raging thirst so they left the house and went where they could get water so when they croaked it they were elsewhere not rotting in the house

Just finished putting Irish Spring soap bars and Bounce dryer sheets in the Vette and ski boat yesterday. Between the two - total of 6 bars (cut up) and 2 boxes of 80 sheets tossed everywhere in side - under dash, seats, etc - everywhere. I do this every fall/winter. Overkill you say (?) - absolutely. But never had mice inside the vehicles. Used to catch lots in snap traps on the garage floor before I started using Irish Spring soap and dryer sheets. Cheap insurance that has worked for me - year after year. Smells way better than mothballs.

Well, the bucket thing doesn't seem to be working for me. Its been in there for a week and I have rebaited twice. The mice never eat the peanut better. However, I bought mouse traps and put them under the car. I caught one mouse in one that last 3 days.

Maybe I don't really have an issue yet. Or I have put the dryer sheets and irish spring soap in the garage and in the car and I have over-powered their sense of smell and they can't find the traps. Maybe?

Note: one of my chucks of soap by the wall seem to have some nawl marks in it. But only one, so I am not sure what that means.

Tomcat green baits in boxes....they smell like chocolate. Destroys their nervous system. It keeps them from eating my RV, go-kart, lawn mower, and vette.

Put them around the perimeter where the tend to travel and put a couple inside the car for extra insurance....they love the green blocks of death. I live against the state preserve and get a constant supply of field mice and these baits disappear so I know the like them.....never actually see a mouse cuz they crawl off and die.

Irish spring soap is to repel deer from gardens. Never heard of mice. Like I mentioned before bounce works and does not stink up car. Mothballs preferred but they stink. I worked for the railroad for 40 years and mothballs we used in our electrical shelters but stink.
Only true way is to seal up building so they cannot enter. The car bag IMO would not keep them out as they can chew through it if they want.

I really don't want to play the "find the dead mouse to eliminate the odor" game.

One question on dryer sheets. Do they leach out, like shop rags do? I get in a bundle of 50 rags, all cleaned and smelling nice- put them on a piece of cardboard and remove them a day later and it's oil stained. Would the sheets cause any staining on plastic or fabric?

Doing dryer sheets for years in RV's, boats, cars even closets at home.

No "leech". Now with that said i don't jam them in tight spaces, more "loose lay".

I put some cedar scented mothballs in my storage shed as an experiment.
Smell WAY better than regular MB's, but still just as "toxic".

I tried Irish Spring one year and returned to find the mice ate some of the bars. Never again.

Dry sheets everywhere, under hood, etc. Car smells like "fresh clean" in the spring.

When you use the snap traps it helps to create a barrier that funnels the mice into the trap. Mice like to run along the walls so if you use a piece of plywood or something to direct the mice over the trap.

Thanks I have the Tomcats around the perimeter of the house, inside the garage and the only mice activity I see is up in the house loft. I set traps there so they don't crawl into the insulation and die. If that don't work, well I'll fix them good and burn down the house!!

Is the loft living space and accessible to cats/dogs? Small kids?
Try the bucket trap in my photo above. No smell if you use anti-freeze or windshield washer fluid.

If its accessible to pets and kids then snaps may be best. My son stuck his finger to a glue trap last week, took us 20 minutes to get it off of him, He wanted to see how "gluey" it was, so he stuck the end of his index finger to it. I swear he takes after his mom.

I have two bucket traps set up at the huntcamp, from the end of October to early May they never get touched. Usually each have 6/8 mice and no smell. I pour the "fluid" into a plastic container and take it to my local hazardous waste depot each spring, mice and all.

I use 10 old school Victory mouse traps baited with Tootsie roll (old Wisconsin resort owners’ trick). A pair of Victor Mini PestChaser (With Nightlight). Bonide Mouse Magic Pest Repellent. Irish Spring soap bars and Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets. I also have a spray bottle of water, peppermint oil and spearmint oil. Every year I seem to add to the arsenal.

I have heard that some mice will eat Irish Spring soap but the nibbling’s give their presents away.

Two years ago I trapped 5 mice in three months and last year I had zero in four months. Just put the car in storage last night, fingers crossed till March.

Placed around in the garage, they'll likely find it, eat it, and never make it into the car. If they do make it to the car, it'll likely not be in the cabin so smell would be a non-issue anyway. Good luck.
