Default Vent Door Removal

Anybody know how? The AIM wasn't much help. It seems I should just be able to push it upward and the pivot rod would be out of the bottom hole. What is left of the vent door seal has been removed and I can push the metal part of the door up all the way to the top of the oval opening but the bottom of the pivot rod is still in the hole. I tried gentle prying, but figured I better ask before I break something.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Is your car a 68?

On a 71 the upper pivot pin is spring loaded.
To remove the door the pin is pulled down (against the spring) and the top of the door moved/tipped out towards the side of the car.
Once the door is free there's enough room to move it up to release the fixed lower pin from it's hole.

Perhaps a 68 is the same?
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan,
Yes its a 68, and it looks basically like your picture. Tilting it might allow it to move upward enough to release the bottom pin. I have a feeling that I'm going to feel like an idiot when I get home and try it.

Just did these on my '68 a few weeks ago. Pull the spring loaded pin down, pivot the vent door out at the top and then lift the vent door to get the bottom pin out. I believe it is the exact opposite on the other side, with the spring loaded pin being on the bottom.

Be gentle. I may be cofused, but I think a plastic part is involved in the pivot area

Hi C,
You could well be right.
There's only one part number for the 'door' listed in the AIM which based on what you posted may indicate the same door was used, but upside down, on the left side!
?
Regards,
Alan

I can verify later at home. I will be under the dash yet again lol

Edit: Just checked and I was right, one is upside down.
