Picked up a rebuilt 67 divorced choke 750cfm Quadrajet today for a fairly reasonable price. The carb is for a 67 327 350hp engine. I’m assuming with 750cfm, it should be suitable for my 454 until I find a correct carb? Lots to do when I get back North next week.
in your first post you were unhappy he scrapped the burnt interior. he did you a big favor. leaving that burnt plastic smell in the car for any time and the smell would be there still. a lot of good work.
Good point, but what I wish he hadn’t done was trash everything. It would have been nice if he had kept the instrument pods (the car had 71,000 miles on it at the time, the defroster switch (is the console side cover different for a car with rear defrost?), misc hard trim etc. It is what it is.
I got some more painting done. I was going to blast the valve covers but was a little concerned about getting all the glass beads out of the baffles so I degreased the covers sanded and sprayed. They’re presentable.
Was time to remove the headers and Edelbrock valve covers.
Should be able to get the exhaust manifolds on tomorrow. I’ve picked up an engine harness and dash harness from Paragon so will have some progress starting there soon as well.
Anyone need a nearly new set of Hedman ceramic coated big block headers? I’ll be listing them in the classifieds but have no idea what would be a fair price?
Nov 30 and Dec 15 1970 on the heads. My 72 had very similar Nov/Dec dates and it was a Feb 28 build car according to the trim tag. So as long as yours is an early 71 built car Jan - Mar? I'd say they're original. Check the trim tag date.

The car has a June 8th, 1971 production date. I’m wondering if the strike in the fall of ‘70 would have pushed engine parts later into the production cycle for a while.
I was able to get one exhaust manifold on this afternoon. Unfortunately the second exhaust manifold gasket was damaged in shipping so I need to pick up another one before I can get the other manifold on.
OK, with everything going on in the world this has kind of been put on the back burner, but it’s time to get back on this.
Got it on he lift yesterday. Who undercoats a fiberglass car?
I had a few things I wanted to do under the car while I had it on the lift.
Removed the engine harness off the starter and replaced the high torque starter with a new stock starter. I didn’t want to have to change the ends on the new engine harness to connect to the aftermarket starter........ if anyone needs one, PM me.
Installed the starter connections onto the new starter and got the passenger side exhaust manifold on.
I had bought a used OEM exhaust system that had been sitting on a shelf for 30 some years. It’s in nice shape and the driver’s side installed in 5 minutes. The passenger side, not so much. I never thought to ask when I bought the exhaust whether it was from a manual or automatic. lol
Would anyone have a photo what the pipes look like where they pass through the exhaust port in the frame on an automatic?
Moved it to the other side of the shop yesterday where it’ll spend the winter being worked on. I promised my son this was the last time he had to help me push it. 🤣
I spent a couple of hours today on the inside of the car. Pulled the shifter out, blasted it in the blasting cabinet, looks much better! Is there a trick to remove the emergency brake handle assembly? I have a feeling I should have disconnected it while I had the car on the lift.........? I’ve got a replacement emergency brake assembly I want to install and I’d like to clean up the Console mount plate underneath it. Is that plate glued to the floor or is it kept in place by the emergency brake assembly?
Any of the bare metal items were “rusty” (I’m assuming because of the use of the fire extinguisher and the caustic contents). I had blasted and painted the steering column mount and plate a year or more ago. Hooked the brake pedal back up to the master cylinder rod, blasted and painted the hardware, and then reinstalled the support.
Fortunately the car actually didn’t get that hot. Anything metal inside is being blasted and painted. The gas pedal assembly I cleaned up almost 2 years ago and it still looks like it did when I put it back in. The steering column brackets look like I painted them yesterday. I’m guessing the blasting is getting rid of the issue.
I should have mentioned that I’m once again looking for a Rochester Quadrajet for the car. The carb I bought was from a 67 Camaro L79 and had been fully rebuilt. Unfortunately it had a long arm on it so would strike the intake. It’s off to where it belongs..... back on a ‘67 Camaro.
Picked up some Simple Green and Scotch Brite pads today based on this. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...iberglass.html
They do a great job. Just had time to quickly try cleaning under the driver’s seat........ and the bird cage pockets. Very happy with the condition of the bird cage!
Have some 80 mil insulation coming this week For the tub, once installed I can get started on the dash wiring and heater box install.
Spent the last couple months in St. Louis but am now back up North and brought some parts back with me to allow me to get some things finished off. In a 14 day quarantine so have plenty of time.
First up get the valve covers installed.
Yes Rear defroster ****, the wiring is a resistor wire and a regular wire for the 2 speeds. Try to save the wire to the motor as it is hard to locate, I fixed mine. Same car, B H Green with Dark Saddle interior.
Read the posts, mine was also undercoated, go figure.. guess they did not want the fiberglass to rust.. some said it was for sound ?
