The headlights on my 69 work great, when I turn the lights on the dash indicator red light comes on but won"t go off until I turn the lights off wonder which switch this is causing the problem.

Hi f1,
The headlight warning lamp is controlled by the black plastic switches that are part of the headlight door mechanism.
Typically the lamp should illuminate at the moment you pull the headlight switch **** on the dash all the way out.
It typically stays illuminated for the brief moment it takes the doors to open. When open the door mechanism pushes the button on the switches in, it shuts the warning light on the dash off.
When you push the headlight switch in the headlights should shut off and the doors close without illuminating the dash warning lamp.
It sounds to me like at least one of the switches at the mechanism isn't being pushed in when the doors open.
Take a look at the headlight mechanism by looking up through the openings in the front valance.
Regards,
Alan
The switch and the 'tab' on the mechanism that pushes the button on the switch.

appreciate it Alan, thought it was something like that I problably didn't get one of the switches back correctly when putting the car back together, that's what I'll check, thanks, you sure helped me awhile back with the switch on my wiper door. Thanks again, I drove the car for the first time last week at night and that's when I found the light not going off so Ill fix it. I have extra new switches also.

If you find one broken, simply unplug it. The remaining switch will let the system function correctly until you get a new switch installed.
If both switches are bad, unplugging both with prevent the center console light from illuminating.

I just corrected the same issues a few weeks ago. You may need to adjust the height that the lights go up to. Once you do that the switch will engage. There is stop nut on the, I believe, fender side that may be preventing the lights from going all the way up, it may need to be adjusted. Otherwise you may need to adjust the arm on the vacuum to raise them higher. Ike
