Default NCRS Or Trim Tag, Who's Right?

My '69's trim tag shows the date code "F16" which I believe translates to January 16, 1969. The shipping data report says otherwise. Is there an explanation for the four day difference?

Hi CU,
Isn't the Shipping Date the date Chevrolet could actually bill someone for the car?
The trim tag date is the date the painted but empty body went past the station at which the trim tag was made and installed. The car typically left the line 1 or 2 days later, and was often 'shipped' 1 day later.

I think your dates are what one would typically expect for a car.
Regards,
Alan

Born on date and ship date are two different things. Using a readily available online date calculator 1/16/1969 was a Thursday and 1/20 was a Monday.

Hmmm-

just a hunch-two thoughts-

1) The trim tag was put on Friday- as it looks like it was put on in a hurry... sort of missed over shot the flat surface a bit...

2) Was put on Monday (1/20/69) as the worker might have been hungover...

Thanks for the insight gentlemen.

BTW, Knoepfler Chevrolet is still on the map in Sioux City. Since I have very little documentation on my car (supposedly an L71), I contacted them last year to see if they had any records of the original build. One of their employees looked long and hard in their archives only to find records before and after my VIN.

January 16, 1969 was a Thursday. The plant was closed on Sunday, January 19. Your car shipped on Monday, January 20.

No real conflict.

Both are. Why imply in your post title that there is something wrong?

The trim tag on our '78 says I09, which I translate as 9th May 1978 (a Tuesday) I have the Shipping Invoice from GM for the car and the shipped date is 17th May, the Wednesday of the following week. So the car apparently "sat around" at St Louis soaking up the scenery, atmosphere etc for a week before it was whisked away to sunny Fort Myers, FL, and Bill Branch Chevrolet.

So your tag and info all seem to tally very nicely!

The trim tag on my 78 shows I17 (May 17th), and I have a copy of the original dealer invoice, which shows the car shipped May 23rd.

Keep in mind the priority in early May, 1978, was completing Pace Car assembly and getting them shipped. As I recall, Pace Car production ended about May 10. Stephen's I09 date tallies nicely with the resumption of regular 78 production.

Mike, I hadn't realised that - that's interesting!

Interesting! Your car was 391 before mine. As I remember my trim tag is F20, shipped 1/23/1969 to Rosen-Navak Chevrolet in Omaha.
