Restoring a 1974 BB Coupe. Body is back on the frame and still doing body work. Problem is in the forward hood area. Hood fits great in the back and wheel well areas but in the front the corners are high on both sides, appox 3/16 to a 1/4 ,and low in the center of the hood. And ideas on how to correct this would be appreciated.

Hi Paul,
Have you looked carefully at the front of the hood? Could it be 'warped'?
Has any body work been done on the hood surround in the area in front of the hood and around the headlights?

Could the hood surround be 'sagged' down in that area and causing the poor fit?
Have you checked to see that the headlight re-inforcement bar that's bonded in place on the underside of the surround is securely in place and it's support brackets are in place?

Perhaps a photo or two?

??
Regards,
Alan

Hood could be warped. Have thought about cutting the reinforcements on the underside in the center and fiberglassing after bending the hood in the center. Drivers fender has been replaced but the hood surround area and the braces are all in place. Headlight reinforcement bar is well bonded and the vertical brace is in place. Working the hood would solve the center low problem but I don't think it will help at the corners. Has anyone had any luck modifying the hood hinges to lower the corners ?

Hi,
Because the actual pivot point of the hood hinge is forward of where the hinge mounts, adding shims to the REAR mounting bolts of the hinge effectively lowers the pivot point of the hinge a little by tipping the pivot point down and that lowers the hood corners. Not much, but a little, and worth the try.
Regards,
Alan

you can loosen the the front center bar and raise the nose
and pickup the difference in the height to the hood.

they use little rubber blocks glued into the gutters to raise the sides of the hood . Might be possible to use some across the top (windscreen area) , at least for test fitting. Just an idea

there is adjustment in the pin receivers , they can be wound down a bit

There is a little play in the side bolts for the inner fender to the core support, you might try loosening these bolts and see if you can move the support up or the inner fenders downward... it's not much as you can see from the holes in the inner fender bracket pictured below but it might give you enough.
