Default Unused wire question

Hi all, I have always wondered if there should be something connected to this wire coming off of the negative battery connector. I assume that the wire coming off of the positive one is the charge wire coming from the alternator. I have looked at my manuals and none show a wire attached to anything from the negative post.

I ask this because this is not the first wire I have found capped off in this car.

those are usually for accesories and are part of newer style battery connectors. I dont know what year your car is but the side mount batteries are usually a mid to late 80's oem style connector if I remeber correctly. Yours are probably replacements so it isnt factory to a C3.

Short answer. its not used, dont worry about it. You can use it for an amp if you add a bigger stereo

Hi,
Just to clarify:

"I dont know what year your car is but the side mount batteries are usually a mid to late 80's oem style"

I believe the change from top post batteries to side terminal batteries took place during the 69 model year.

RR is right, the cable connectors didn't have the additional leads at the terminals... at least through the 72 model year.
Regards,
Alan

GM switched to the side post battery around August/September 69.

This is a 1980. Thanks much, I'm not going to worry about it.
