In the process of rebuilding the rear end on my C3 Stingray. I notice when I removed the spindle mount assembly bolts holding the leaf spring, there was not any tension on them. The current leafs have 7 leafs instead of 9. The rear end sits about 1" lower than the front measuring from the ground to the top of the wheel well. The reason for the rebuild is rattling when I hit a bump and the trailing arm bushings are not to bad.
My question is what is stock? 7 or 9 leaf springs?
The springs can be re-tensioned. I found a place in Denver a couple of decades ago that did it.
They just need to know the stiffness that you want or had originally.
I had the gymkana suspension ( 7 leaf) , and as I remember it was rated @ 450lbs, but not totally sure.
Hi CG,
I'm curious about the " spindle mount assembly bolts".
The bolts at each end of the spring are connected to the trailing arm... are those the bolts you're referring to?
Are you saying your spring had no arch to it when those bolts were removed?
Regards,
Alan
Is this the bolt you're referring to?
If the spring has the proper arch to it, when the weight of the car is off the suspension there should be several hundred pounds of pressure on that bolt.
