Default Pretty brake calipers...

Just finished rebuilding and powder coating these and had to share. I think they came out quite nice...

Looks great, did you powder coat them at home or send them out? If you did them at home, how did you do it?
Thanks

Regards,
Alan

I did them myself at home. I have some of the highlights in my build thread here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1596292990

I can try to write up a basic powdercoating 'how to' if my thread doesn't answer your questions. It really is pretty easy and WAY better than painting.

Hi Alan! Yes, I coated the heads of the bolts as well. Since I am not going for NCRS I chose to make them black for aesthetic reasons plus the powder makes them a lot more corrosion resistant.

Here they are masked off and cooling after curing the powder.

If you did them in your wife's oven, you might want to skip the next few batches of cookies, pizza, or baked chicken. Just a thought.

Oh, by the way, they look absolutely awesome!

Very nice! Love your DIY powder coat setup. I might need to grab me one of those.

"Quite nice" is a bit of an understatement. You're being modest. The calipers look great. Nice job!

That looks good I also did my front calipers the same way, But i powder coated the bolts in the same color. i also replaced the bleeder screws and brake pad retaining pin with stainless steel ones. I am doing the rears also over the winter.

They look great, powder coating at home sounds like an interesting thing to be able to do.

Haha, a good tip for sure. Just in case someone comes across this thread looking for information: the fumes released during the cure cycle of powder coating render an oven unfit for food preparation.

I have a dedicated full size oven and a little toaster oven dedicated to powder coating.

Those came out great! I debated coating the bolts the same color, just as you did but honestly it was an afterthought and I had already loaded the satin black powder for the rest of my coating projects. Laziness won out but I am pretty happy with the results.

It is super convenient and you can get started very inexpensively. At this point I much prefer coating over painting and will use it anytime something needs a finish coat.

I hate waiting for paint to dry :-p. Patience, like most virtues, isn't something that I possess in any great quantity.

I can't tell you how many times I use it but it is quite often. Enough that I am building a much larger oven (6'x4'x4' interior). I still get lots of requests to do motorcycle parts so this will allow me to cure a frame.

The color options are also outstanding. That orange I used is a pretty close match to the paint that I will be putting on the car.

Those calipers look great.

My wife needed all the bathroom handles/etc. converted to Oil Rubbed Bronze which would cost $2,000 for new hardware. I explained to her about powder coating all the items for $300 INCLUDING the gun and the powder.....she said "Go for it", so, I went for it!

Now I have a powder coating kit for the Corvette! Annnnd it is fun to use the gun (but it will BITE you if you touch the part while you are spraying the powder )

Ouch! Yep, there is a significant amount of voltage running through the tip of the gun.

Smart way to get yourself a nice powdercoating rig too! I have also done a lot of kitchen hardware, door *****, coat hangers, and pretty much anything made of metal. I made a bunch of furniture with iron pipe and coated that as well...it really comes out nice and is incredibly durable.
