Default Cost of painting an L-88 hood

Anyone know the cost of painting an L88 hood? None or minimal prep, just black lacquer paint. Thank you.

* Most likely someone will ask why lacquer. The rest of the car is lacquer and I figured it would make for a better match. If that's not the case, please let me know.

My rookie guess is $200.......plus tax...,,,AS IS. Annnd, as we all know a $500 hood spray might not look 1/2 as good as a $150 spray "job" depending on the dedication of the Painter.

You do know that lacquer/even just a spray "job" has to be sanded--re-sprayed a few times even if you bring them an "AS IS" hood? I would gues it would cost you $20/sq. ft. start to finish for an lacquered hood.s

$300 for a decent daily driver clean/sand/fill/primer spray with ENAMEL (roughly $15 per sq. foot.

Maybe expert members could give you a much better cost/per/foot formula (painting/body repair before paint can vary a lot.

I personally don't want a beautiful $20,000 paint "job" on my car. I would cry too much the first time it got scratched in a parking lot.

Hi 66,
I'd think it's a half-day's work if things go well, and that will be stretched over a 2 day period. $500-$750?

I believe the difficult part 'may' be finding someone with the experience, willingness, and equipment, to do the proper preperation, painting, and finishing.
Regards,
Alan

Lacquer is good!

When I was taking my truck around to see how much to get the hood painted, it was pretty much $500 per panel. So I'll say $500.

Who shoots lacquer anymore? Except in their own garage.

$29 harbor freight spray gun. $150 in primer, paint and materials. Priceless satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Who will be doing the painting? If you intend to use professionals, get estimates.

I have noticed that Labor prices in the Deeeep South are usually 25%-50% lower at a competent decent privately owned body shop.

Annnnnnnnd, when done right/well, Body Work/Painting is truly an Art! Feel blessed if you can do it as a hobby or as a Living.

I got mine painted locally by a fellow car cruiser who owns his own body shop. He charged me $400.00. Color matched it perfectly. It was an Ecklers new (primer gray) hood.

No prep work? Is it primered with a compatible primer? If not, it's gotta get stripped and done right. Most pro shops wont spray over any primer/sealer that they didn't apply themselves. Warranty issues and all that.

my painter gets $45 per hour plus material, so it depends what pre work need done and how time after that. He does high end painting for cars going to Mechem auctions etc.

Thanks for the input. I think I have a handle on the approximate cost.

What are your thoughts on the necessity of using lacquer on the hood because the car is lacquer- simply that the match is proper? Thanks again.

Just because it is black, doesn't mean it's going to match the fenders. Do you have some of the original paint that was used on the rest of the car? if not you might need to do the tops of the fenders as well.
