Default ANOTHER hood stuck

Hello,

I think I've viewed every thread on the topic and my 69's hood is still stuck. I believe I have the driver's side latch fully open (see pic) but the passenger side of the hood is still fully locked. Any one solved this issue? The driver's side of the hood seems to have some play now that I have the latch mechanism propped open, but the passenger's side is definitely sealed shut, so I'm assuming the left and right latches are now divorced. It's a big block so there's very little room to see what's going on from the passenger side. Beer money goes to anyone with a solution!

On a 69, if the passenger side is disconnected from the drivers side and you have the drivers side latch open then remove the grill between the hood and wiper door. There is a plastic floor plug about 1 inch around on the firewall directly to the rear of the right side latch. Raise the wiper door then insert a bent rod under the wiper door, through the hole after you have removed the plug and to the left side of the hood catch spring and up against the latch. Then force the latch inwards towards the center to release (pull outwards on the rod end). If you have long arms and no A/C you can put it up on ramps, crawl underneath and lying on your side, reach up and snag the right latch lever with your fingers. The flat part of the latch moves inward towards the center of the car to open.
I've practiced on my 69 hood and your pic above is the way I found easiest to get it open. Takes less than a min. with a 24" bar through the 3rd fender vent and resting on the firewall bulkhead.

If you look down on the driver side the latch is struck by a small arm that pushes the release arm on the hood latch. The driver side hood latch opens the passenger side latch. Have someone move the hood release inside the car to easily see it.

If you have the drivers side open you can sneak your hand under the hood on the drivers side and push the lever on the hood to open the passenger side. Sometimes the head of the pin gets stuck under the latch. If you gently push / pull on the hood it may pop while the lever is pushed.

I unstuck a hood by parking the car in the hot sun, the expansion was enough to allow the pin to clear and open. (it was summer)

There should be an access hole with a plug on the passenger side that will allow you to push the release lever to open it. You can use a small Harbor Freight screw driver type pry bar.
You have to unscrew the wiper grate / cowl and remove it to access the hole.

ACH- if you have read the threads, there is a rubber plug/grommet that you need to remove on the passenger side and then stick a screwdriver or similar tool thru to disengage the lock. It's tough, since you can't see where to push. As a last resort, remove the bolts on the hood hinge up front by reaching in with a long arm and wrench. Once the hinge is loose, you can move the hood around to pop the stuck lock. Once you get it open.......fasten a wire to each lock and feed them out to a location you can reach to pull if the @#$%^^&* thing sticks again. I had mine stick and it is really annoying. Hope you get it open.

Hi a,
In your search did you come across this information fro a Service Bulletin?
I'm not sure if the plug is in the usable spot on all 69 cars, but I think it is.

Is it possible that the the male 'probe' is stuck under the latch on the female latch? Have you tried pushing down on the hood to release some of that pressure on the probe so the latch can move?

Regards,
Alan

While you are tripping the latch push the hood around . If that makes sense. Side to side

When this happened years ago on my 68, I removed the grille and worked a long screwdriver if I remember correctly up against that notch in the hood. It did the trick. Good luck.

Do all 68 hoods have that notch? Don't think it is on mine.

The aftermarket L88 hood on my 68 DOES have this notch. Just checked it.
