I’m now three weeks into working on my, new to me, ‘79 and I just want the headlights to stay down, or go down.
This is my first experience owning a Vette and I’ve watched, searched, looked up enough on YouTube to know I’ve got some work ahead of me getting them to work but I have bigger issues to work on first. I’m not planning on driving it much but when I do I’d like the headlights to be down. Is there a simple way to just have them down?
Im obviously a newb here but any advice would be appreciated.

There is a pull down switch under the left side of of the steering column at the bottom of the lower left dash pad !
If your lights are off and you push it in you lites should go down ! It is an override so that if you have to replace the light it stays in the upright position!
Something that will help you to understand the whole system and how it works and how to trouble shoot all of its components is a site called www.corvettte101.com and a tool you can get at Harbor Freight called a mityvac !
If you push your pull down switch and the lites still won't go down you going to have to go thru the whole system one piece at a time to find out what is working and what isn't !
Good luck and let us know how it works out for you!
Depending on if the vacuum system is connected and working correctly or not, you can lower them manually by reaching up under the bumper and pulling on the linkage (if the vac system is not working). There is a knee action linkage that should have about a 3/4" hole on the end that you can pull on. If the vac system is keeping them open and you can't fix it, or don't have the time right now, disconnect the vac lines and plug them then pull down manually as above.
For some reason or another the weblink isn’t working for me. Can someone post a picture of the knee action linkage so I know what to unplug then plug? I can find no switch to the left of my steering column. I know this must be annoying to you guys... thank you though

Hi TS,
Pull forward and down on the 'pin' that the springs mount to... NOT on the warning switch.
Removing the hoses from the headlight actuator makes it a little easier on the diaphragm seal in the actuator when you move the headlight door manually.

Alan
If it has been sitting with the headlights up for a long time, first WD-40 up every single swivel point in there. They could very well be seized in the up position.
The past week and a half has had me working on home projects so I was finally able to get the headlights lowered last night. I wasn’t able to track down the problem but I know now what to look for. Thanks to everyone for all of this information!
