The tire is about 26" tall the stock tire is 27" tall so no issue there. It really depends on the wheel choice and backspace. A 9" wheel with a 5" backspace should work with little or no problem. With the 20" hoop the rear spring should be no issue as the spring would go inside the hoop if it didn't clear. The front could be a different story but in the recent past we have seen up to 295s on 10" wheels on all 4 corners. It takes work and very careful measurements and can be made to work

Here you go. The proof is in the pic. I'm tucking 255/35- 20s in the rear. And 3J is right. The spring and disk brake bracket fit inside the 20" rim. The fronts are 235/30 20s. My car is also lowered substantially and I have no clearance issues, but wheel offset is crucial to making it all fit inside the stock wheel well.

Depends on the model year of your car. Early C3's did not have enough clearance designed into the front wheelwells to support wide tires. That change took place in the mid-1970's. 235's will fit into ALL C3's; 245's will fit into many early C3's; few early C3's will support 255 width tires in the front.

Rears have no problems supporting 255 wide tires.
