Default Who Do You Recommend???

I have been a member on this forum for a while and have read countless threads and posts where fellow members had issues with shops due to poor repairs or out right damage to their beloved Corvettes.

I would like to start a thread that acts as a directory of recommended shops, companies or individuals that have given C3 owners outstanding service anywhere around the world.

This thread would not be open to bash a shop, company or individual for poor repairs or to debate what options a member chose to restore, or modify their C3, but just a place members can go to share a positive experience.

I'm not claiming ownership of this thread and if it's a bad idea, if someone has a better format to start it with, if it should be moved to someplace else or made a "Sticky Thread", please feel free to jump in as this is just a way I can see to help others.

Let me start:

USA, Napa, California, LJ's Speed and Machine, 707-255-4611. John, Kathy and the employees at LJ's are extremely knowledgeable about the products they sell and the latest technologies in the hi performance industry. LJ's has an excellent reputation throughout the community and surrounding area and they have given me sound advice regarding the performance upgrades I am making to my Corvette.

USA, Yuba City, California, Kens Custom Auto Body, 530-671-7250, Ken is an expert in restoration, custom and collision repairs. I used him for a Factory Five Racing 33 Hotrod, and other projects. I have always been amazed with the results.

The idea of such a thread seems great,

I believe endorsments should be limited to guys who actually had work done by said shop, not "hearsay"

But if someone posts a shop they had good luck at and another guy had bad luck, both feedbacks should be allowed otherwise it might help a guy get screwed,

Real shops/companies like ernie willcox, tom dewitt etc pay big money to be supporting vendors here,
Others would like to skirt that and get free advertisements without paying supporting vendor fees,

I would hate to see such a thread become some free advertisement thread for non supporting vendors, its not fair to those who do pay.

Just my 2 cents

I would like the thread to show recommendations only, and from the forum member who actually received the services.
I do get your point about posting poor service, but then again it could start a debate that would take away from the reason for the thread.
I figure that if someone feels strongly enough to post their satisfaction with a shop, company or individual for services they received, then hopefully someone else will benefit.
There is already a section for supporting vendors to advertise on the forum.
If someone wants to include one of the supporting vendors for services they feel warrant a recommendation, then why not?

A couple problems that could come up is that reporting satisfactory transactions is something that belongs in the Transaction Feedback section. If someone were to start a thread with such a report, it would be moved to that section.

Making a stipulation that people can only post their satisfaction, while others are not allowed to disagree, is counter to the circumstances in the open Transaction Feedback section that would allow a balance in postings if members had differing opinions.

Also, revised forum rules do allow a link or a mention of satisfaction with a Non Supporting Vendor when offered to help a member, but I should note it can be a short trip to the level of “promotion” which would be removed or end the thread entirely.

Finally, I’d also mention there is a consolidated Sticky thread already in the Transaction Feedback section for positive only recommendations of vendors and members:

My shop guys retired at the end of 2017. I would like to think I was a big part of enabling their retirement.

The two brothers were very good though.

Thanks vettebuyer that pretty much sums it up

Oldcarbum,
Im a guy who has had some bad luck once with a buddy of 35 years no longer a buddy and then with a guy trying to be a professinal tech and painter,
Lets focus on him for a moment,
Call him shop x,

He does some great work when he wants to and some dog doo,
If fred comes in and posts how shop x just painted his car beautifully, it just means the coin flipped in his favor that day,
If im not allowed to share what i experienced at shop x then its one sided and derelict to helping people find a good tech and not a hit or miss gamble,

Like vb points out we have this in the transactions section
