I put in vintage air so I no longer have a vacuum source. It looks like that’s what it needs to close. Any creative ideas on how to keep it closed? My ghetto c-clamp didn’t fit.

Why no vacuum source? If nothing for heater controls, you can T off the headlight vacuum.

The AC cars from the factory didn't have Astroventilation....

I used some will placed SS screws-

If i want fresh air- I can open the window- or put the top down!!!

And I fiberglassed the other holes-the ones that Vintage air gives you the block off plates for-

And I made some fiberglass clovers to stop hot air from outside getting in the cabin-

Mold-

On the factory A/C cars the Astro vent was If I remember right pop riveted closed.

While you are under the rear deck I would check the drain hoses for the Astro Vent tub.

@richard454 nice idea with the screws. May have to do that.

Also so good idea with teeing off another vacuum line but I don’t really want to add more to the vacuum system. I don’t even know if the actuator works.

Hi H,
Normally rotating the right side temperature wheel on the heater/defroster controller to 'C' sends a vacuum signal to the small 'pod' which closes the Astro 'flappers' at the rear deck.

The pod is mounted to a small bracket that's part of the Astro frame with 2 nuts on studs that are part of the pod.
Removing the 2 nuts allows the pod to be removed and then a small piece of tape will be able to hold the flappers in the closed position.

You might check the condition of the foam rubber seals while you're there, but just taping the flapper closed should give you the seal you're looking for.
Regards,
Alan

Here you can see the little pod, bracket, and nuts, that you can remove if you wish to.
The longer screws mount the flapper frame to the plenums.
