Default 68 locking gas cap

I need a gasket for 68' locking gas cap. I see gaskets for stock caps but the locking ones I cant find a replacement. Anyone know where to get one?

I could be wrong but I don't think the locking gas caps were an OEM part.
I'm pretty sure you and get a new locking cap for under $20.00 from any of the vendors. You can even get them through NAPA Auto Parts.

Hi gg,
I think OCB may be right. I don't see mention of the locking cap being offered by dealers until the 70 model year production.

Would the regular gasket work on the locking cap since it seals the same configuration neck on the tank?
Regards,
Alan

No it seems to be a different gasket size from my stock cap non locking cap. I actually have the box from Chevy when the locking cap was bought part no.985919 so apparently it was offered for Corvettes through Chevrolet. Guess I could try to cut my own from gasket material but getting the exact fit will be difficult.

I have cut a couple of these gaskets from a cork gasket sheet using an xacto knife and a suitable sized can from the pantry as a pattern.

Best to do this when your better half is not around to ask any questions! Was hoping your post would turn up another alternative.

The 68 used a vented gas cap so make sure the locking cap with whatever gasket you use doesn't seal it completely as most locking caps were non-vented back then.
