You are so wright on times were better, not like the crap going on today. Brings back old times when I got my brand new 68 firebird off the show room floor. I love all the cars back then. They had their own style, not like cars today, that look all the same.

The only problem with the "muscle car era" was that it was too darned short!! It was only about 10 years time (1961-1970). There were some very nice rides made for a few years after that, but it just wasn't the same with the EPA restrictions, insurance rates going sky high, and gasoline in shortages or higher priced.

It was great while it lasted...

I would have said it went to 1980, but you are probably right. Our "government" decided they needed to save us from ourselves with EPA rules and crash protection rules that changed the cars dramatically....otherwise my 1977 would have been a 350-400 HP engine with chrome bumpers.

Talk about memories, my brother had a 66 GTO convertible. After he blew up the engine [389] he parked it. I purchased it from him for $300 and stuffed my built 301 [bored 283] under the hood and had a great time with that car for years. T

The GTO brings back memories!!! My first new car was a '67 GTO I traded in a 65 Mustang 2+2 that was upgraded by Shelby dealer in Kansas City. The mustang would run like mad it would lift the right front wheel off the ground about an inch when I hit second gear. I though it was bad ***. The GTO would run circles around the Mustang when I traded in the mustang the dealer gave me a sales pitch on how special this GTO was special engine "hood with special air intake" no options just heater and radio. Well after driving it two years and trading it in on a new '69 Corvette convertible 350/350 4 speed with every option in the book. Well after trading it in it was brought to my attention that maybe the salesman was right the GTO was one of a few produced with the functioning hood scoop air intake. All I know it was fun back in the sixties and early seventies. The GTO was the strongest of the three.

Hi,
Beginning in 1963 a couple of friends and I would take the 'tour' of the GM Broening Highway Assembly plant in Baltimore.... "to see what we could see", several times a year.
In 1964 the plant began to assemble the 4 mid-sized cars...MIXED !!.... on the same production line.... so you could see a Super Sport, followed by a GTO, followed by a 442, followed by a GS455, one after another. Of course the majority of the cars were models we weren't interested in but there was a surprising number of performance cars sprinkled in the mix.
It was incredible to see where the cars we were so interested in were coming from!
Regards,
Alan
