You mentioned a 396 being in the car maybe at some point in it's life a previous owner installed BB coil springs. I would replace the coil springs and go from there.

I may have to if this does not work. But, all indications are it will. Action frame owner Keith says every time some one buys new springs he has to cut 0ne coil off for it to set right.
He is the only one in Carson City area with and older alignment machine capable of doing these older cars. Every one else has the new digital type, their spec's do not go back that far. Last time I was in there he was working on a Vett frame that had cracked buy the steering box.
The only major change was R&R a crate 396 that had been installed with a 350 ci /300 hp, so a weight diff. may account for the front end being higher if new springs were used to carry the new load. ??
I'll measure the rear hanger bolts and see what length they are. They are new in appearance.[/QUOTE

Maybe just take the small block out and put a big block in up front. That would probably bring it down an inch or so. Now that is a 396 small block correct? Did you buy springs for a 396 big block engine? Because all small blocks weigh within 2 or 3 lb of the same weight. Except maybe a couple of pounds off for Aluminum Intake or aluminum heads could be about 80 pounds lighter but I don't think 80 lb is going to give you an inch and a half of additional height...

But the front end? you ask if I bought a spring for a big block 396.
NO, I did not.
It already had, I think it was a 350/396 in the car???? and I did not change out the spring, I did not think of it.
Could the prior owner have put some kind of lift /spacer in it, or longer springs?? heavier springs???

Newer alignment machines work on our vettes. Just provide the tech with the alignment specs you want and they'll dial it in. As I noted in a previous post here, you may as well cut your original springs and save the cost of buying new ones if you're going to follow the advice of Keith.

That is what I thought, just give them the spec's. BUT what do you when they say, no, we do not work on classics, it is an insurance question, the machine does not have those spec's..etc...
Look they do not want to work on it, they find it a problem or what ever, I do not equipment beyond hand tools,my physical condition and age are a factor as well. SO if he has the experience to cut, align, and a fair price, OK.
