Actually for the street the M20 wide ratio is a better gear box. Even with 3.70 gears the 1st gear of the close ratio the multiplication in 1st gear is 8.14. With the higher revving LT1 motor and not a lot of bottom end every time you pull away from a dead stop the motor will lug a little. The M20 with its 2.52 1st gear ratio provides a better 9.324 ratio. Gives a little more gear multiplication. The close ratio (IMO only and many will and have disagreed) is a terrible street transmission. It was designed for road racing and drag racing to keep the rpm in a narrow power band. The wide ratio M20 was a far better driver transmission. Again just my opinion but I have driven many miles with both and much prefer the wider ratio gear box.
I remember this on was up for sale. Very nice car. It has a luggage rack, correct? Someday, tell us the story on how you purchased a car in Canada and have it shipped to New Zealand.
Hi Jaxlt1, Yes was advertised on Hemmings, was not able to get anyone to go and check the car for me. My shipper here in NZ ( CFR Line Group ) has a contact in Vancouver ( All Cargo Express ) I paid the money for the purchase of the car to them and told the seller to take the car there and apon inspection if it was the actual car that was advertised and the vin and owership checked out All Cargo Express would hand over the money. It took a few days for all this to happen and I had to pay All Cargo Express $250 USD for there part in the purchase of the car. All Cargo Express packed the Vette and a new F150 into a 40 foot container and put it on a ship destined for NZ, it arrived via Sydney Australia about 26 days later and 12 days after NZ Customs took there time clearing it I have it and I am so happy. Late last year I sold our 67 coupe which was a survivor car, maintained but never any resto work done on it, I brought that car from Northern Carlonia and had it for 7 years, 327/300, marlboro maroon, black interior.

Hi Gordonm, A wealth of knowledge there thank you, well that all makes me feel a bit better I thought the M21 box was to die for and while this car is in my possession it will never be raced, it is now part of our family and I am very happy. Thank you for your input much appreciated.
My LT-1 came with the M20-3.70 combination also. TI was discontinued for the LT-1’s in 72
Hi LT3, OK that is excellent, since understanding the ratios thanks to the help from members of Corvette Forum for road driving I think the M20 with 3.70 gears is better suited than the M21. Thanks for your input LT3.
Hi Tomdrpm, Nice car, is that Ontario Orange? wow it must be a rocket ship of the line, get some good traction and it is probley good for high 13s quarter. Thanks.
987 Ontario Orange 417 Saddle vinyl. I dont get after it too much. Ive wrecked too many nice things in the past so I know better with this one. It has less than 12000 original miles.

Hi Tomdrpm, Wow man it looks like a restored car, but no all original ah, my goodness that is worth a pretty penny, lucky you. Would it fetch near $100000 USD?
Just throwing this out there...and I apologise in advance for the hijack...but
Are any of you guys in the NCRS?, there is a member, Scott Lindee , that is a keeper of a LT-1 registry, just interested in if any owners who have posted in this thread, might have listed their cars in it.
Regards
Roy

Hi Roy, So is that Scott Lindee or Drew Papsun? No I am not a member of NCRS.
SAL70LT1@yahoo.com is the email of Scott Lindee, the originator of the registry.
Drew Papsun, helps out maintaining it, if that email address still works, I would advise those interested in adding theirs to contact Scott.
Again, sorry for going off topic here

Roy

Hi Lloyd.
I used the same process when buying my LT-1 from New York and couldn't get to see it in person. Glad it all worked out for you and the car looks stunning.

Very nice Tom and less than 12k miles
My OCD would have me cleaning up the engine bay though
Hi tomdrpm,
Wow!
That looks like a VERY nice car in those photos!
It looks like it is a wonderful source of information about what cars were like when they left St.Louis!
It looks like you're doing a terrific job of 'tending' it!
Regards,
Alan
