Default Tail light lens differences?

So about 4 years ago I order some tail light lens for my 72, and they all came with no silver on the back at all. I think that matched the ones that were already on the car, can't remember for sure though. In any case, I order two more so I could finish the four tail light conversion and the new ones have silver around the edge on the inside. Honestly, with the halo's it looks better with the silver back, so that's actually preferred. My question is, what do I need to order here? Evidently some came with silver backs but one of the two times I ordered I must have gotten shipped the wrong thing. Can anyone tell me what year the silver backs were on the tail lights? Thanks

Hi T,
On my 71 the taillight/brake-light lenses have the silver coating but the back-up lamp lenses don't.
The condition of the finish on the lens body may also affect the ampont of light given off.
Regards,
Alan

If you are not concerned about originality, painting the housing/body either white or silver will cause the lights to be noticeably brighter

If you look at the front of the lens, the 71L,72-73(?) are domed in the center while the 70 & 71E are coned in the center

I believe the 68-69 are also coned but the entire center section from the stainless ring inwards is coned rather than just the middle couple of inches.

Not sure that any of the 70-73 were not painted, not to say some of the repos didn't come un-painted though

It's probably that my repo's I first bought were unpainted, although I've seen some others on ebay that weren't painted as well. I went ahead and bought two more painted ones so it will look right hopefully. What makes it hard is none of the places online that sell them actually show the back, so ebay is like the only choice for buying.
