Default 1970 paper work

I am lucky enough to have two build sheets, invoice, order form, and protecto plate for my car...one thing i notice is the number on the build sheet is not the last 3 of my vin, but that is definetly my car...take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Hi w,
The 108 in pencil on the Order Copy is the 'job number'.
At the plant in St.Louis, cars were assigned consecutive numbers from 1 to 500 (then repeated) as a way of keeping track of cars on the assembly line.
That number is also typically written several places on the car... passenger's side toe pan at the firewall in the engine compartment, and the passengers side of the transmission tunnel in the interior, plus several others.
Regards,
Alan

There was sometimes a correlation between the job number and the car's vin sequence, but not always.

186 on the build sheet.

186 on the toe pan.

186 below the shifter console.

186 below the rear widow. R indicates the car got the optional radio.

Subtract 500 from 608 (the last three digits of your VIN) = 108 for the job number. This formula works for some model years, but not all.

Since we're discussing 1970 documents, I have some questions regarding my tank sticker. Mine is very similar to the OP's in that they were both built in 1970 and both had a 3.36 ration axle. So why do I have another line under Comfort that says, "performance axle ration" and the OP's doesn't? And is there any known database for these Option Numbers?

Chad

I do not know 70 paperwork as well as 69 but there are a coupe of possible reasons.

One reason could be that you have a M20 wide ratio trans and the 336 might be considered a "performance option" posi. Its possible the 308 was standard. On the M21 close ratio the 336 might be the standard ratio posi. If you chose a 370 ratio with the M21 you might see the extra line as you see on yours. This is just a guess. I'm not even sure of what options were standard with any packages in 70. When it comes to 69 I have a better understanding.

Another reason might be they changed format at some point in how they listed items. Unlikely, but possible. I would need to compare more legit tank stickers to know for sure (which I've done with 69s for many years)

Thanks Ed. After reading a little about the differences in WR and CR transmissions and how they relate to gear ratios, your explanation makes pretty good sense 👍🏼

Ed is correct. 454 with M20 or M40 the standard gear was 3.08. Performance gear was 3.36
