Default 69 style side pipes

I want to ditch the Hookers and install the factory style side pipes. I am thinking about using McJacks side pipe headers or their short manifold replacement headers. I will have ss pipes made and probably use a muffler from Classic Chambered Exhaust. I really don't want to invest the $ in the metal reproduction covers. What is the quality of the fiberglass covers? Will I need braces for the aft portion of the covers. From those that have installed these what other considerations am I missing and can you share your experience? Thanks

I bought a fiberglass set for $500 off a fellow forum member that had them chromed. I think he had spent $400+ JUST having them chromed and was unhappy with what he had spent for what they looked like....Chrome looks pretty good.

Mounting?
A couple holes didn't line up- but no big deal as I used 1/2 square tube to space the covers out to fit 4" SS pipes underneath.

1/2 spacing-

Fit on the car with no real issues

I am going to paint the screws and trim stripe black.

Here's my custom sidepipes- if you haven't priced SS lately- I think going with gold would have just been a little more... Come apart with the v-bands. I have straight pipes with electric cut-outs to run them through an internal glaspac muffler

Here's more on my muffler design-

I got a SS tab w/ mounting bushings off ebay- worked great

And I'll be wrapping the muffler with this to keep the heat down.

That looks good Richard. Thanks. Is your outlet 3” or 4”?

Thanks-

It's 2 1/2" with a 3" outlet and a foot long.

Really nice quality for only $25. I welded a V-band to if for easy removal.

My car came with the fiberglass side pipe cover over stock pipes painted to match the car. It was too much blue. I eventually found 2 or 3 partial sets and made a nice driver quality setbwith enough spares to send them off for chroming. I personally love the metal over the fiberglass but the price is significant. my rear mounts were just bent aluminum strapping. Nothing fancy just to keep the fiberglass off the pipe.

I had Mcajacks and they cracked at the welds. I have Summit rams horn 2.5 inch collector to 2.5 inch sweet thunder pipes. Sound nice and I'm satisfied

Is there a side pipe cover that fits over aftermarket full header side pipes. Mine look about 4 inch diameter.
