Default door 71 /80 question

Folks, I can buy 2 1980 very very clean door, have not seen them yet,
does the metal frame inside still have the holes where the 71 controls are located, I hope I could remove the 80 guts and install the 71 stuff, Thanks Mike.

FWIW: the door opening hardware and position on the 80 doors is different from the 71.

Yes I know that, but my memory from 30 years ago is a little rough, I thought they still used the same steel frame and just modified it to accept
the 80 hardware but left the shape the same to accept the old stuff, can any one else comment about the inner frame???

The inner frame is similar but there is no nut plate for the inside door pull I cut that area out of an original door and welded it into the later door to make it work on one of my 69s, the mirror plate is also different and difficult to change.

I had 80 doors on my 76 when I bought it. I hated he door panels and looked around but as you never got any legit answers. I did was able to install the door handle in the correct location but had to bolt it in. The holes are all there but no welded nuts to the backside.
I cant comment on the mirrors I left the sport mirrors on the doors along with the remote cables. The factory 76 interior panels fit fine.
I did have to remove a brace that was spot welded on.

Yes... you can switch over what it needed but it is not going to be a simple 'plug and play' scenario.

I feel that the sport mirrors may make it so you can not see over the tops of the quarter panels.

Installing the metal plate that is needed for the chrome outside mirror mounting area is NOT that hard to do. I created a thread about it showing how to fix that area if needed.

And if you do use the chrome outside mirrors...then the holes where the sport mirrors a were located will need to be repaired.

And do not be surprised if the area of the door where it meets with the rear quarter panels do not exactly match the contour. Hopefully these doors do for you.
