uWhat is wrong with this picture and can it be fixed? Don't know history of car but gap between doors and front end is off. Not a problem just looks like s%#t.
Hi SDR,
From the photos it appears both doors are down at their lower rear corner.
It may be that the hinges need to be adjusted.
Or
It may be that the door hinge pin bushings are worn and need to be replaced.
If neither of those things are the answer the repair could become much more involved. Probably something you don't want to even think about at this point.
I cant say for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if it came off the line like that and its nothing more than just poor build quality, although your passenger side does go from wide to narrow.
I am still kicking myself for not correcting that gap before we painted it, wouldn't have been that big of a deal to make pretty again, but not the end of the world.
Same on my '77. If you try to adjust the doors watch the point on the leading edge of the door for clearance. Hood rise on drivers side is the same as mine. In '77 fit and finish was not a priority. mike...
With the door open, try lifting it up from the rear. It shouldn't be loose.
If it is, then it is probably the hinges/bushings. One of mine actually had a hairline crack in it.
It is amazing all the adjustments you can do with the hinges and spacers.
As mentioned, be very careful the front of the door does not hit the rear of the front fender when you open it. Bad things will result
I predict it will be an easy fix
and not a result of a wreck

So, hinges hopefully?

it it could be that your body mount bushings are worn out and need to be replaced or shimmed. Some times uneven compression of that rubber can ware them differently. Especially if you have never replaced them.
Those doors are more than out of adjustment ,I would be even more concerned with how badly this car has been prepped before being repainted. The mirrors, door handles and lock cylinder look like they were not removed. Sure sign that anything can be lurking under that shiny white paint. But that's just me.

Fiddling with the door adjustment might make it good enough but I don't think it can be made right. Note that if you move the doors forward the apex of the door may well clip the front fender and chip the paint.
Before doing anything I would jack up the rear of the car and take some more pictures. This car sitting on the ground looks like my car when it is up on jacks.
My 77 is similar and I know its never been hit.

My wife had a '79, that she bought brand new, back when we were first dating. Yes, the doors on that car fit that poorly, right from day 1. And the paint?
