Default Interior Carpet Question

Hi All,
I'm about to install new front and rear carpeting. My question is does the center console need to be taken out to do the install or can I just loosen the screws enough to slip the carpet underneath or does it go across the whole transmission tunnel? What's the least intrusive way to do this?

Thanks,
Charles

Model year? 68-76 console and ebrake console usually have to come out. 77-82 you might get away with only removing the console side trim.

Hi Charles,
I believe it's wise to trim all but about 1"to 2" off the carpet that extends up under the sides of the shifter console and the parking brake console.
If the carpet extends too far under the consoles it 'spreads' the console and makes fitting them well difficult.
I think the shifter console can stay in place but it helps to take the parking brake console out. You DO need to use it as a guide for how much to trim though.
Here's a couple of photos showing Al Knock carpet BEFORE trimming.
Regard,
Alan

Measure, measure, measure, BEFORE!!!!! you cut!!!!!!

I'm going to replace in my 69 also, do I need glue?
If yes, where?

Hi C,
On my 71 I used a little glue on the vertical surface of the footwells below the kick-panel vents, and also a little on the rear wheel well pieces.

Alan
