Default Paint trim decoding.

What interior color is 131? And what exterior color is 37M? On my 1981 trim tag.

Don't see any of those codes listed in the Corvette Black Book. Can you get a pic of the tag & post it?

Default 1981 decode

looks like 13I and 39M. I see 39M is charcoal paint. What is 13I?

Been awhile since I decoded a Bowling Green tag. There not like the St. Louis tags. I don't see the interior code, but the 33U & 33L is for a solid silver '81. 33U=UPPER SILVER 33L=LOWER SILVER

GM denoted it this way because of the two tone cars being produced.

33/39 is two-tone silver over charcoal (dark silver). IIRC 131 is silver gray leather.

Ought to be a sweet combination.

Default My 1981

It is sweet. I waited 58 years for this moment.
Thanks for the help.
Can you shed anymore light on the trim interior? I’ve read cloth was merely a seat cover over leather? That’s what mine has. Don’t know if it’s factory original or after market. Do you know? The code is not 131 but rather 13 I.

You have leather upholstery in your car. The cloth covers are aftermarket seat protectors.

Nice car.

81 was a split year. Chevrolet built Corvettes at both the old St. Louis MO plant, and the new Bowling Green KY plant. St. Louis production ran from August 80, to September 81, while production at Bowling Green began June 1st, 1981, and ran into November 81. Your 81 was built at the Bowling Green plant, and the Black Book doesn't have complete information on the Bowling Green 81 colors or interiors.

13I is the interior trim code for the gray (sometimes called Slate Gray) interior in 81 Bowling Green Corvettes. The Bowling Green trim tags did not differentiate between leather and cloth seat covers. So ALL Bowling Green 81's with a gray interior, show a trim code of 13I. Your car clearly has leather seats, with aftermarket cloth covers on them.

As Paul Borowski said, 33L 33U 39M is the Bowling Green codes for Silver over charcoal two-tone combination. The two-tones were only offered on 81's built at Bowling Green.

I have a Bowling Green 81, that I bought new. My car is charcoal gray metallic, with the slate gray leather interior, and my trim tag reads: 13I 39L 39U. I did quite a bit of research on Bowling Green paint and trim codes about 25 years ago, while working on the NCRS' (National Corvette Restorer Society) first 80-82 Judging Manual. 81's weren't among the fastest Corvettes ever made, but they are among the best handling and most comfortable, of the early ones.

Congratulations on your first Corvette, and welcome to the Forum!
