Default Fiber Optics Trim Plate

Could someone tell me what the difference is between the '68 front fiber optics trim plate, and the 69-71 front FO trim plate? Thank you.

I wasn't aware there was any difference in them.

Hi BHC1,
The Interior Section of the NCRS 5th Edition of the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide indicates that the forward fiber-optics bezel was made from plastic at least through serial number 19534.
The bezel was changed to metal with the first documented example know at the time the manual was updated being 20174.
So it will depend on your 68 car's serial number as to which version it left St.Louis with.
Is that what you're referring to?
Regards,
Alan

To my knowledge I've never seen a 68 with a metal bezel.

While I know they changed at the end of the production run almost all the cars that come into my shop have a plastic FO plate.

You can use either one though, they both will work fine for your car and the metal 69 style will last you longer as far as how it looks over time.

Yes sir, that is what I was referring to. I actually have a 69 but, and the plate is plastic, but appears too large for the console (which is a legit 69 console). Was wondering if someone changed it along the line with a 68 plate which may be larger than the 69? Since you stated the 68 was plastic and the 69 metal, that is possibly what happened. Wonder what the size difference is.

Thanks Willcox, and everyone else who contributed. While I have you guys here, let me ask what the best thermostat is for a 350.350? I need a new gasket so I figure I'll throw in a new stat as well. Probably 180*?
I'm still learning the car, just ordered a wiper control valve WITH the dust boot which was difficult to find for some reason.
Does anyone have a break down on the Heater controls? I know I have 2 pull ***** on each side of the vehicle, along with the 2 vent sliding controls, but have no clue what does what.
Thanks for hearing my rambling!

Hi B,
The 180 degree thermostat would be typical for your engine.

I'm thinking no a/c on your car?
The heater/defroster controls on a car without a/c are quite straight forward:

The 2 round vents on the dash panels are part of the Astro-Vent system. The pull ***** open and close them.

The 2 levers on the shifter console control the air vents in the kick panels.

The heater/defroster controller consists of:
A lever that controls the speed of the blower.
Two 'thumb wheels".
The one on the right controls the temperature of the air being moved... hot or cold.
The one on the left controls where the air is directed... the floor outlets (heater), the dash pad (defroster), or both.

When the right side thumb wheel is turned to 'cold' the astro vent doors in the rear deck open and air moves through the interior.
When the right side thumb wheel is turned to 'hot' the astro vents in the rear deck are closed so the heater can warm the interior of the car.
Regards,
Alan

If you ordered this valve that came with a dust boot, it's imported and won't function like the original... Send it back... ... it will fail....

The dust boot isn't a huge deal.. what year is the car? If it's a 1969 or newer then the dust boot isn't a huge deal... getting a valve the works correctly is. Here is a link to the one we pulled from our site..

https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...69-72-imported

The valve above was based on a false test reported by our forum Proctologist which was tested incorrectly..... there was a video done a few years back by the almighty Dr... and he blew it.... it should be pulled because it was done wrong.

If you look at the vacuum schematic you'll see that this... and take a look at our Youtube video that shows how the valve should work properly.. The only valve on the market that works like the original one is the one that we make and as bad as I hate to say, we don't have the boot... but the thing works exactly as it should.. with or without the boot..

Willcox

Correct working valve can be found at this link and the supporting videos are also posted on this link for you to view.
