Control Arm Bushing Removal
Hey guys, I'm trying to remove the control arm bushings on my 75. All 4 control arms are off the car. I've tried threading a bolt into one end of the rod and hitting it, soaking the metal sleeves of the bushings in PB Blaster, it won't budge. I'm going to try heat today, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I have access to a shop press just down the road.
Thanks!

Yup, grab a torch (yellow propane bottle hand held will work), a chair, a beer (or two) and burn that baby out. Might want to put some sort of steel plate under it to catch the drippings.

Okay...to my knowledge the bushings are contained in a metal sleeve which is a taper fit into the arms. Is this not correct? If I burn the bushings out it would leave we with the metal sleeves still there.

For the metal sleeves, I CAREFULLY made two or three hacksaw cuts into the sleeve from the inside until I could collapse the sleeve.

Lots of guys pound them out with air-chisels, I choose to do it this way

Not to say that air-chisels aren't the way to do it, just not the way I do it.

I bought a bushing install/ removal tool and it doesn’t risk bending the arm like a press. I bought a extra set of arms when I redid my suspension so I did them right on my bench. It was literally one of the easiest things I’ve done once I had the right tool. I put my new bushings in the freezer overnight and pressed them in with just as much ease.
