Need help radio will not work
i need your help. Took the car out of storage this year and turned the radio on. The antenna went up the lights on the radio went on but no sound. I turned the radio off and on about 5 times fast. The antenna stopped moving (in the up position) and the radio still does not work despite being on
so far the fuses appear to be on. I can hear the relay click yet the antenna will not come down and no sound
any thoughts?
, I also doubt your problem is due to the 'convector' (final amp stage mounted behind the right-side passenger dash pad). Most likely, it is some kind of electrical fault due to contact corrosion or a wiring issue. It could also be that one (or more) capacitors within the radio head unit have 'decided' to "call it quits"!
Chase down the power/fuse/wiring fault possibilities, first. Your antenna issue is likely related to the quick ON & OFF thing you did; it might be confused as to whether it is up or down...or a microswitch may have been damaged with the multiple direction reversals.
If you can't seem to fine the problem, you might want to contact Jerry_the_radio_guy on this Forum to get more expert advice and/or a repair to the head unit.
The radio is aftermarket
it does turn on.
I HAD Sound ie noise out of the speakers but now nothing
the antenna went up from resting place but something happened when I turned the radio off and on quick.
All of the radio and crs fuses are good.
I can measure 12 volts across the green and grey wire with the key on at the relay exit.
I do not have a motor running noise (most common thing I keep reading)
i have NOT. 0pulled the radio to see if maybe a fuse to the radio went bad.
Fyi this car originally had a cab radio for what it’s worth. Thinking of put the old unit back in as a test
please keep the thoughts coming. It’s just not acting like a broken mast
thanks
If you have the original speakers in your car, they are 10 ohm [impedance] speakers. Most modern radio units have 4 ohm output impedance. That means if you marry a new radio with your old speakers, you will get less than 1/2 of the sound power than what the head is capable of producing, just because of the impedance mismatch.
That combination will still play music and it can easily play loud enough for you in the car. But, old speakers will provide very poor sound reproduction.
