the fire theory is just that. truth is all the paper work is gone and no one knows what happened. my guess it got all thrown into the trash as some point

sure they do, Jim Mattison from Pontiac historical services can tell you the date and the womans name at GM who signed the order to destroy all the Corvette records

According to this they were destroyed in a fire:

A. We do not know. We have been told by General Motors that all records from the St. Louis Plant were destroyed in a fire after the Assembly Plant was re-located to Bowling Green in mid-1981.
