Default White Splash Shield help.

I bought new splash shields for the front of the toe pan and I'm not sure my 68 with a trim plate date of May 22 came with them from the factory. The NCRS Technical Guide says an opaque white plastic shield in front of the toe pan appears in late 1968 production. It doesn't say what date or VIN number it started with. The drivers side has no obstruction. On the passenger side there are two insulation clips where the shield should bolt down. This is also a a/c car and the shield interferes with the heater hoses being connected to the heater core. The passenger side does not have the upper studs to mount the shield to which leads me to believe it didn't come with the shields. The drivers side toe pan has been reconstructed so I don't know if it had studs or not. Does anyone know what date or VIN they started using them in 68?

Anyone with a 68 a/c car that has the trim tag date around May 22 please check if they have or had these white plastic shields. I'm trying to determine what date they started using them.
Thanks, Don

Don

I don't know exactly when the early 68 triangular splash shields were replaced with the later white plastic shields but from what I've seen it would approximately May/June of 1968. My April car does not have them yet but I've seen several June cars with them. Your car being late May it's hard to say. I would go by what the car tells you. Having the insulation clips being in the way suggests it was not built with them.

Does your car have the rear floorboard brackets for mounting the large rectangular steel shield under the seats? I what I have seen these were added at the same time as the switch white plastic shields?

Hello John,
Yes, it does have the rectangular shields under the seats so I guess mine didn't come with the white shields.
Thanks,
Don

Don

Sorry, my response wasn't worded very clearly. If you have the rectangular shield under the seats I think you should have the white plastic shields.

It is the front triangular splash and the rectangular seat shields that were not used together.
